SECURITY & COMPLIANCE

Who owns the source code and IP when Creuto builds my software?

Short answer

You do. Creuto's standard engagement terms assign the source code and intellectual property created for your project to you on delivery. Code lives in repositories you control, and infrastructure runs in accounts set up in your name, so you are never locked in to us.

The full answer

Clear ownership matters for investors, acquirers and your own peace of mind. When you raise funding or sell the company, due diligence will ask who owns the code, and the answer should be simple.

In practice, we recommend setting up the code repository, cloud accounts, app store developer accounts and key third-party services in your company's name from the start, with our team given access. That keeps control with you throughout the project, not only at the end.

Products also use open-source libraries and third-party services, which come with their own licences. We choose components with licences suitable for commercial use and can provide a list of the main dependencies on request.

Ownership terms are set out in the engagement agreement before work begins, so you can review them with your legal advisers. Combined with a structured handover of code, documentation and access, this means you can continue the product with us, with an in-house team or with another partner.
