The full answer
The process has four stages: application review, a conversation with the team, a practical exercise and a final discussion. The technical conversation is about how you think, so prepare to explain decisions, not just outcomes: why you chose a framework, what went wrong on a project and what you would do differently.
The practical exercise reflects real work. For engineers that may be a small coding task or a system design discussion, such as modelling a booking system that must prevent double bookings, or designing an API for a mobile app. Reviewers look for readable code, sensible structure, tests, error handling and awareness of security and performance, not clever tricks.
Know your stack properly. Web candidates should be comfortable with React, Next.js and TypeScript; back-end candidates with Node.js, NestJS, Python, Java or .NET and relational databases such as PostgreSQL; mobile candidates with Swift, Kotlin, Flutter or React Native. DevOps and cloud knowledge on AWS, Azure or Google Cloud, Docker and CI/CD is valued in any engineering role.
