Backend Developer

About the Role

We are looking for a Backend Developer with 2 to 5 years of experience to design and build the APIs, services, and data infrastructure that power our products. You will work closely with frontend engineers, product managers, and DevOps to create backend systems that are fast, reliable, secure, and easy to maintain.

In This Role, You Will

• Design, build, and maintain robust RESTful APIs and microservices using Node.js, Python, or Go.
• Design and optimise relational and non-relational database schemas and queries for PostgreSQL and MongoDB.
• Build secure authentication and authorisation systems using JWT, OAuth 2.0, and role-based access control.
• Implement caching strategies using Redis or Memcached to improve response times at scale.
• Develop event-driven systems and background job processing using message queues such as RabbitMQ or Kafka.
• Write comprehensive unit and integration tests and maintain high code coverage across all services.
• Work with DevOps on deployment pipelines, containerisation using Docker, and cloud infrastructure on AWS or GCP.
• Monitor services in production and respond to incidents proactively.

You Might Thrive in This Role If You

• Have 2 to 5 years of backend development experience with production systems at meaningful scale.
• Have a strong grasp of data structures, algorithms, and system design principles.
• Think about security, performance, and reliability from the very beginning and not as an afterthought.
• Write code that other engineers enjoy reading, maintaining, and building on top of.
• Are comfortable working in an environment where you are expected to take initiative and solve problems independently.

Bonus If You Have

Experience with GraphQL and schema design for complex data models.
Familiarity with serverless architectures using AWS Lambda.
Knowledge of full text search using Elasticsearch or OpenSearch.
Exposure to AI or LLM API integrations within backend services.
